Ponderwell Privacy Policy

Ponderwell is a private journaling and mood-tracking app designed to support personal journaling and self-directed reflection activities. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how Ponderwell handles your information.

Data Collection

Ponderwell does not collect, transmit, or store user-generated personal content on external servers. Specifically:

No account or registration is required
No personal content (journal entries, mood data, session responses, letters) is ever sent off your device
No advertising, marketing tracking, or user behavior analytics are included in the App
No cookies or web tracking of any kind
No cloud sync or server-side processing

The App may transmit limited technical and diagnostic data (such as device information and error logs) solely for the purpose of identifying and resolving technical issues. See the "Third-Party Services" section below for details.

Data Stored on Your Device

All data you create in Ponderwell is stored locally on your device. This includes:

Journal entries, session notes, and unsent letters
Mood check-in data (emotions, intensity, body regions, context tags)
Gather and Reflect session responses
Homework and agenda items
Meditation and contemplation logs
Badges and achievement progress
Journey configurations and scheduling preferences
App settings (theme, audio preferences, profile name)

This data remains on your device unless you choose to export or share it.

How Sharing Works

Ponderwell includes optional export and sharing features that you control entirely:

Reports and session summaries can be shared via your device's native share sheet (text, email, messaging, etc.)
JSON data backup can be exported for personal safekeeping
Daily quotes can be shared via the native share sheet

When you use these features, the data is transmitted using your device's built-in sharing capabilities. Ponderwell does not intercept, log, or store any shared content. The privacy and security of shared data is governed by the recipient app or service you choose (e.g., your email provider or messaging app).

Audio

Ponderwell includes ambient music and binaural beat audio features. All audio is played locally on your device. No audio data is recorded, transmitted, or analyzed.

Third-Party Services

Ponderwell does not include analytics providers, advertising networks, or social media integrations. The app uses a single third-party service:

Crash reporting: Ponderwell uses a crash reporting service to detect and fix technical errors. This service collects only diagnostic data necessary to identify and resolve bugs: device model, operating system version, app version, and error stack traces. It does not collect any personal content such as journal entries, mood data, session responses, letters, or any text you write in the app. Crash reports are used solely to improve app stability.

Data Deletion

Since all data is stored locally on your device:

Deleting the Ponderwell app permanently removes all associated data. There is no way to recover data after the app is deleted unless you have previously exported a backup.
You can delete individual journal entries, sessions, letters, homework items, and other content at any time within the app.
You can use the backup and restore feature to export your data before deleting the app.

Children's Privacy

Ponderwell is not directed at children under the age of 17. The app is designed for adults who are engaged in personal growth work. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Mental Health Disclaimer

Ponderwell is not psychotherapy, counseling, or a substitute for professional mental health care. It is a journaling and emotion-tracking tool intended to support people who are engaged in personal self-reflection activities. The app does not diagnose, treat, or provide therapeutic advice.

Your Rights

Because Ponderwell stores no data on servers and has no user accounts, there is no personal data for us to access, correct, or delete on your behalf. You have complete control over all data on your device. You can view, edit, export, or delete any data at any time directly within the app. Because we do not store user data on external servers, we do not have the ability to access, retrieve, or restore your data.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will post the revised version with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. Material changes will be noted within the app.
